At the Animal Foundation in Las Vegas, from the day Zar entered the shelter, the friendly dog wanted to hug everyone she met. According to the shelter, anyone who came through the door, there was Zar – just as friendly as could ever be sweetly wrapping her paws around visitors.

Maybe one of these visitors hugging me will take me home?
The five-year-old pit bull mix quickly captured attention with her unique habit; she hugged everyone. Since arriving at the shelter, Zar had quickly connected with staff and volunteers; it was nearly impossible to ignore the full-body hugs she offered throughout the day.

The Animal Foundation described Zar pressing herself into people and staying as close and as long they would allow – it wasn’t long before she earned the nickname “The Hugging Shelter Dog.”

Zar would get along fine with other dogs, loved receiving treats, but her truly favorite times were often caught as she nuzzled her friends and caretakers at the shelter; her chin resting in their hands.
There was little doubt that the friendly, curious and loyal pup needed a person of her own to cuddle and share adventures.

Sadly, Zar had been overlooked by adopters, but her story about hugging quickly caught the attention of the internet. Not long after, her dream came true. Zar has her very own family to hug, and we wish them all the love in the world.

Our hugging shelter dog has been adopted!
Christian and Leslie saw Zar on fox5vegas at 4:00am yesterday, came to meet her last night, and fell in love instantly.
One round of Zar’s tight squeezes in the play yard and they were hooked.
