In the community of Mecca, California, Faith Easdale, Dream Fetchers Rescue, had been messaged about a heartbreaking situation late this week.

It had been along a busy highway when a small dog had been spotted cuddling beside the lifeless body of his once bonded buddy. When he had to leave the side of his deceased pal to scavenge for food, he would too often cross the busy highway; semi trucks were flying by. Most likely, a vehicle had fatally struck his friend.

Spotted:
Faith spotted the dog alongside of the guardrail. She watched him sleep by his friend and the heartbreaking crawl and nudges he would usher, just to be near his lifeless pal as if the constant gentle paw pushing would wake him up.

Concerned neighbors and area residents tried to approach him, but at the first sight of anyone even getting closer, including vehicles, the frightened pup would run away cross the highway. One semi truck hit the brakes and stopped traffic in order to avoid the dog being struck.

Faith held her breath. When she spoke to the driver, he said he had seen the dog the prior day, and the dog seemed to be watching the traffic as if he had been waiting for his owner to return.
Faith set up the humane trap and cameras to carefully monitor the dog, hoping he would go into the trap during the night. Faith had been alone that night and was extremely worried for the dog’s safety.

At one point the next day she went through the bushes, quietly trying to get more enticing food in the trap. Then she moved the trap closer to where he was – not a sound as not to scare him away again.

And that finally worked
Relief was an understatement when he finally was safe inside the trap
I couldn’t bear for him to suffer the same fate his friend did
He was literally falling asleep on the way back
He’s really cute, although he’s a mess and full of ticks, but now he’s safe!
Updates to follow.
Here’s the rest of the video with the happy ending:
