Fiona is just two years old, and she has been trying her best to protect and care for her sick puppies in an overcrowded shelter. Her puppies are currently fighting respiratory illnesses. Fiona has tested heartworm positive, but let’s face it – none of this is her fault, but now they are all running out of time.

This family undoubtedly need a miracle, but social media, rescuers and families have done all this before. We can do it again! At this time Fiona and her puppies are not able to be separated.

The dogs are in the care of BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. Let’s post more information to help everyone get to know these delightful pups.

Fiona is friendly and quiet in her kennel. She does appear to be overwhelmed and stressed in the shelter environment:

• Is gentle and calm in her kennel
• Is not comfortable walking on a leash and may “pancake” (freeze) — a common fear response in scared dogs. This behavior reflects fear and shutdown; she has not displayed any aggression. She needs a quiet place to help her decompress and finish raising her puppies.
• Is caring for her puppies in a loud, stressful shelter setting
Mom: FIONA (#A2055201) is a Border Collie black and white blend. She is two-years-old. She weighs 51 pounds and has already tested high positive for heartworms. She entered the shelter on Jan. 31, 2026. She will need heartworm treatment which is manageable in foster or rescue care.
Puppies: Latte, Mocha (#A2055202 &#A2055203) are showing signs of upper respiratory infections (URI). They have green nasal discharges and have been moved to the treatment room at the shelter. The puppies are currently being treated with antibiotics and have been given their initial vaccinations.
The medical staff chose to keep puppies with mom for comfort and care since Fiona is not currently showing URI symptoms.
