A teenage hunter in rural Wisconsin Rapids had a scary experience last Friday as he hunted wild turkey. Little did Carson Bender know at the time, he was being stalked by a bobcat.
Bender, 19, had been in the woods near his home when he sensed he was being followed. We’ve all had those feelings, but when he heard quick sounds behind him, he knew something was amiss. He told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that he hit record on his phone and spotted a bobcat adjusting itself to a pouncing position.

Bender had been tracking a turkey at the time, but also had kept a sharp lookout for the bobcat. And to Bender’s surprise, just before he was going to take a shot at the turkey, the bobcat jumped and grabbed him by the arm.
Check out the video. The minute plus video of the encounter and subsequent attack has garnered more than three million views.
Bender ended up with just a few scratches on his arm and is currently taking antibiotics to avoid any infection. He also returned the following day to the area to hunt for a wild turkey.
- If you see a bobcat, remain calm and back away slowly; avoid running, which can trigger their hunting instinct. Do not approach or corner a bobcats, especially if it is with its young. If a bobcat seems comfortable around people, make yourself large and noisy to scare it away.
