Saddest dog stood on street corner and howled waiting for someone who would never come back

In Bell Gardens, California, Star showed up one day in the local neighborhood; since then she never left. The abandoned dog would walk up to the door of one particular home over and over. Surely she had hoped it was her home, but nothing smelled familiar. She was lost and so lonely.

Every day she would stand at the corner and howl; she was waiting for someone who would never come back.

The kind family who lived in the house tried to help. They made her a little bed out of a plastic kiddie pool, hoping she’d at least have somewhere soft to rest. The homeowners called independent animal rescuer, Suzette Hall for help.

When Suzette’s partner rescuer Rosario Ortiz arrived, the tiny dog panicked; she paced back and forth from the corner to her little pool bed. She was too frightened to allow anyone to touch her. Because she was so loyal, it seemed as if she wasn’t giving up hope the family who abandoned her would soon return.

And then it was time to capture Star and show her that life could still get better. Suzette and Rosario set a humane trap. They used warm hot dogs for bait, and Star was instantly ready to eat. She had been starving, and the smell of the food was too hard to resist. She was tired, and she was finally ready to be rescued even if she didn’t know it at that time.

No one knows why she was left behind, but one thing is for sure. She is safe and will never be abandoned again.

Here she is today after being groomed.

But now… she has us. And she’ll never have to wonder where she belongs again.
