In the Texas city of Godley, an alleged pack of between 30 to 40 abandoned, hungry and aggressive dogs had been spotted roaming the streets. According to local residents, this was not a recent development, but rather one where irresponsible dog owners had been dumping their unwanted dogs during both day and night for months.

Neighbors stated they had seen the dogs roaming in packs and were afraid of encountering them. They feared letting their children out to play and carried sticks when walking their own dogs.

The police claimed there was little they could do since there is no city shelter and asking surrounding area shelters had not helped. The other shelters were all at full capacity. According to the City of Godley’s website, the city does not employ a full-time animal control officer. Animal Control calls are the responsibility of the local police. Police officers respond to calls about aggressive dogs, large animals blocking roadways and potential rabies cases.

During a city meeting, one city council member recommended updating the city ordinances which would fine pet owners who illegally dump their dogs.

Fast forward a week or so as, Texas All Creatures Rescue and Tall Tails Rescue and Transport, have been working with Godley city officials, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Texas Humane Society to rescue stray dogs from a growing pack that has become a safety concern for the community. The rescuers have been trapping the dogs who are not vicious, but have been described as fearful and unsocialized. The dogs are being given food and vet care.

Check out the video as the dogs were in the process of being helped.

Vicious? Oh come on guys; these pups are scared and hungry and just want someone to care about them. (Viewers must have a FB account in order to view Facebook Watch videos)

The rescue is seeking experience fosters and homes to provide these dogs a safe and loving environment to socialize them in order to find adoptive homes.

And just to help with the facts about these dogs, there were not 40 dogs; rather the numbers indicate between 13 to 15, and the dogs are not vicious. Rescuers met a mother dogs with her puppies, a senior dog limping from an injury and several other dogs who were just very hungry.

By filming and sharing the truth about the dogs’ condition, rescues want to counter negative press and garner support for compassionate solutions

Rescue organizations are urgently calling on rescues and fosters experienced with fearful or unsocialized dogs. With your help, we can trap, vet, and place them in safe, loving homes.
