In Skiatook, Oklahoma, the Humane Society of Tulsa is asking for the public’s help after more than 400 Maltese adult dogs and puppies were rescued from horrible conditions at a Stroud dog breeder business.

According to the organization, the dogs had been living in disgusting conditions in Add Love Pets. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that officers have closed down the “suspected puppy mill in Stroud,” and that “around 200 dogs” had been “evaluated” after being rescued from allegedly “terrible conditions.”

When rescuers arrived, they were met with pungent ammonia levels registering too high for animal control officers to enter without the proper protection. In addition, cockroaches and rats were running around and over some of the dogs. For most of the team, they had never witnessed anything so vile and disgusting.

I’m grateful to say this cruel operation has been shut down. This is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when first responders and community partners work together.
Jerry Hine, 83, the owner of Add Love Pets, the facility suspected to have been a puppy mill, was arrested on Tuesday, July 15 and faces animal cruelty charges.
The business has now been shuttered permanently. In the past, there have been continued complaints about the conditions which presumably were reported to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food & Forestry. This week the department did an inspection, and along with local law enforcement, closed down the business.
According to reports, Oklahoma Westie Rescue, Legacy of Hope, Tulsa Humane Society and Animal Rescue Foundation rescued approximately 405 Maltese dogs.

Why did it take so long for someone to finally rescue these dogs? There were complaints and yet someone just put this on a back burner. Had they gotten to them sooner there might not have been 405 dogs needing rescue.
