At the SPCA of Wake County in Raleigh, North Carolina, Barnaby’s pink coat remains a mystery. The staff and volunteer are genuinely at a loss.

The pink kitty had been at a government shelter in Harnett County where he had been brought in as a stray. It is not known if his family ever missed him; he was kept at the shelter for several days for a mandatory holding period, making it possible for anyone looking for their missing pink cat to come to the shelter and reclaim him before he was made available for adoption.

Sadly, no one came for Barnaby. He has not been neutered nor does he have a microchip, so his past remains a mystery. The shelter released him into the care of the SPCA of Wake County over the weekend.

The staff describes Barnaby as being a very nice cat who is passionate about his toys.
And this cat is described as “VERY FABULOUS.”
There have been quite a few theories how Barnaby became a pink cat. Some say he was dyed for Easter. Others say he rolled in children’s sidewalk chalk, but here was a favorite:
Thinking he robbed a bank and the dye pack went off??
Seriously though, he looks like a pretty cool little fellow!!
Barnaby isn’t listed as available for adoption at this time, but keep checking back – he’ll be listed here.

Another reason animals, especially cats, are dyed different bright colors is that the fighting dogs are trained using them and there are bets taken on which of animals will survive the longest (I wish I didn’t know this information but my Dad, who was an animal rescuer, told me about this very cruel practice).
It’s absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking what’s happening to innocent animals………. I just wish it would stop!!!
