On May 2, 2026, Timmy, a humpback whale was released into the waters of the North Sea. When released, he swam out of the special water filled barge transport on his own power. Everyone crossed their fingers; hoping Timmy would survive and make the long trip back to the Atlantic Ocean.

Timmy had been stuck in the shallow waters off the German coast of the Baltic Sea since March 3, 2026.. The 40 feet long whale caught the world’s attention after he stranded himself multiple times; each time becoming more distressed and weaker.
While beached, some scientists opined the whale had been chasing a school of herring while during migration and lost his way. Other scientists observed how Timmy was not in good health, and even discussed speculation that he had chosen the shallow waters to die. Still many people who have taken an intense interest in the whale, celebrated his release.
Two entrepreneurs sponsored one last effort, insisting the whale had been fighting to live.
However, it’s now unclear how Timmy was released off the flooded barge, and he is feared to be dead. According to EuroNews, reports on social media said the crew of the ship were glad to get him off the specially designed barge using heavy balloons to keep him wet while transporting him out to the North Sea.
Dr Kirsten Tönnies, a veterinarian from the private initiative, had not been permitted to be there when Timmy was freed from the ship, and that Timmy was released too soon and in a secret effort.
it is highly unlikely that it did not have enough strength to swim in deep water for a long time and is no longer alive.
The GPS tracker allegedly attached to Timmy failed following his release, and has since provided no data on his survival. It has been the German Oceanographic Museum that Timmy was too weak to swim in the North Sea and has since perished.
