In Paulding County, Georgia, a dog fighter was sentenced on Thursday to 475 years in prison for dogfighting and animal cruelty. One of the rescued dogs named Baby Shark, who had been just eight-weeks-old when seized by authorities, was present in the courtroom.

According to 11Alive News, Vincent Lemark Burrell, 57, was found guilty of 103 charges which included 93 counts of dog fighting and 10 counts of animal cruelty.

If you see something, say something, and in this case, it had been an Amazon driver who had reported his concerns about dogs on Burrell’s property that had been heavily chained outside of each dog’s reach, thus provoking aggression in dogs. When officials investigated, they found 107 dogs on Burrell’s property.

The dogs were seized November 8, 2022 and taken to Friends to the Forlorn Pitbull Rescue:

2 years ago I got a call . Dog fighting operation just a little over a mile from my home . I was asked to assist . I called the only person I trust to handle difficult dogs ,Be Still Dog Training and frank Ortiz . Together Frank and I worked day and night, for 4 days straight, removing over 100 dogs from their chains and holding them so they can be photographed and medically examined by veterinarians. We have a dog that was seized from that case .. her name is Baby Shark .

And today, Baby Shark went to the courthouse and faced her abuser. He was …

.

Convicted on 93 counts of dog fighting , 10 counts of animal cruelty and sentenced to 475 years in prison. . Finally justice was served .. don’t fight dogs in my county .. they don’t play here ..

great job by everyone involved in this case . The hard work paid off . These dogs deserve better

According to Chief Marshal Trevor Hess, it is important for people to know how prevalent dogfighting is, and that dogs aren’t just property to be used and abused. The prosecuting attorney, Jessica K. Rock, Animal Crimes Resource Prosecutor, has been able to bring this egregious cruelty to light and helped to make sure this dogfighter will be behind bars.

Sheriff Ashley Henson encourages the public to report any suspected dog fighting by calling 911. All tips will be kept anonymous.

Today is $500.00 Friday, and the rescue organization has a friend who would like to donate $500.00 in honor of the dog fighting conviction yesterday and Baby Shark, who was rescued from that horrible situation.
