In Santa Ana, California, police arrested a woman on Friday, allegedly captured on camera stopping her vehicle, letting a small dog out and then one minute later intentionally running over the puppy and driving away.
According to the Santa Ana Police Department Facebook page, the disturbing incident occurred early Thursday morning as an older 2000-2006 gray, Chevrolet Suburban drove through a residential neighborhood. The vehicle stopped, and the driver exited the Suburban and appeared to let a dog out onto the street.
According to the police report, the series of events occurred as follows:
One minute later, the driver intentionally runs over the dog and drives away. A good Samaritan hears a dog in distress and immediately renders aid. The suspect vehicle returns, however, the suspect nor the suspect vehicle stops to help. Our Animal Control Officers rushed the 2-month-old female Rottweiler to a local animal hospital where it underwent emergency surgery. The puppy sustained a broken rib cage, but she is expected to make a full recovery…
The puppy is currently being cared for at the Orange County Animal Shelter. The police provided an update on Friday stating the woman had turned herself into authorities.
