Ko Samui, Surat Thani, Thailand, rescue organization Happy Doggo is always on the lookout to save street dogs who otherwise would never have a chance.
On May 31, the day “Mr. Big” was found, he had been lying in an abandoned outhouse curled up in the corner of the room, appearing as if his life was soon coming to a painful ending.
For months, the rescue tended to his physical needs, and it was a stellar day when he was adopted by a couple who had driven eight hours to come and meet Mr. Big.
As the three went home to bond as a family, everyone from the rescue smiled and were sure Mr. Big was finally getting the dreamy life he so deserved.
But the “best laid plans of mice men often go awry.” No one expected what happened next. While being introduced to the couple’s other dogs, Mr. Big bit his new owner’s hand. It wasn’t a serious bite, but nonetheless Mr. Big was no longer welcome. Oddly, he had never been aggressive to anyone in all the time he was being rehabilitated, and everyone at Happy Doggo felt awful; both for the new family and the dog.
Mr. Big was brought back to the shelter, and the staff worried about Mr. Big’s future.
Three days later, teammate Pan had been working with Mr. Big and decided to post a video on her Thai social media featuring Mr. Big. AND now that video changed this dog’s life!
Much to everyone’s amazement – someone recognized the dog and notified the rescue organization they were the dog’s owners and he had disappeared nine months prior from his home when workers had carelessly left the door open.
Accompanied by his rescuers, Mr. Big arrived at his former home; the dog let out a huge sigh of relief as he checked out his obviously favorite spots from almost a year ago. He was so excited to be reunited with his family.
One of the best moments was seeing him reunited with his sister who looks exactly like him, and finding out his name is “Boy” and her name is “Girl”!
Now Boy and Girl lie in their balcony, lounge by the pool, follow their humans around in the garden and are just absolutely enjoying each other’s company.
