In Las Vegas, a tiny Chihuahua mix named Gizmo, finally found his way home after nine years. It had been on February 3, 2015 when the two-year-old pup had been playing in the backyard of his home when he saw a chance to go exploring out of a side gate accidentally left ajar.
According to Channel8News, a neighbor was able to capture two of the dogs running from their yard, but one stranger had picked up trusting little Gizmo and allegedly took him with her.
Gizmo’s owner, Judy Monarrez, said one of the neighbors begged the strange woman to give her Gizmo, but the woman refused and left. She said she was going to a veterinarian’s office to have the dog scanned for a microchip, but she never responded to repeated social media requests, nor did she ever return with the dog.
Judy didn’t give up looking for her pup and did everything she could to track him down. For years she would periodically post the dog’s photo and information in hopes someone might have found Gizmo:
Still missing our Gizmo. Not giving up.
It is not known how Gizmo eventually found himself alone and scavenging for food on the streets of Las Vegas, but late last week, a pet microchip company, Home Again sent Monarrez an email that the dog had been found, and he was at Animal Emergency Center of Las Vegas. Imagine – after nine years, Gizmo was alive and when she arrived, the tiny pooch was getting a relaxing bath.

The dog had been heavily matted, had missing teeth, overgrown nails and walked crooked, but his recovery has been going well, and already he is looking and feeling better. Gizmo’s medical bills have exceeded $1,000 and Monarrez has started a GoFundMe account for help since he will need additional medical intervention.

How cool is that story? Gizmo’s owner certainly feels as though the dog’s return has been a miracle. What do you think?
