A “sweet, sweet old man needs a savior” describing a senior German shepherd with the most soulful looking face, needs a home. His photo has captured the hearts of social media viewers across the nation.

Tank Valero, who is at least 10-years-old is currently at the Humane Society of Central Texas and is looking for a home with a family who will love him during his golden years. He is underweight at 81 pounds.

the saddest eyes … this sweet, sweet old man needs a savior. that’s all there is to say.

Facebook post April 8

At one time, Tank had been quite the stunner, and he still carries himself as stately as ever, but time is rarely our friend when it comes to aging, and living in a noisy shelter at this time in his life has become very stressful.

As far as how Tank gets along with other dogs, well…. he would do best with a meet and greet if there is another dog in the home, but Tank being the only pup would surely be ideal. Thus far, he has ignored all the cats, but a home without cats is preferred.

Tank is frightened inside his kennel, but once outside, he walks like a proud gentleman on a leash. He apparently is potty trained. As soon as he gets a break, he’ll take care of his business outside.

He’s attentive and notices everything around him. Tank hears well, and responds excitedly to squeaks, indicating he may like a toy or two. He even will be vocal once he’s relaxed, and does he have a commanding bark!

As stated earlier, Tank Valero would benefit from a hospice foster home, a forever home from a person or family that has a soft heart for older pups who may only have a short time left.

And for his latest update on Thursday (yesterday) we find out some more information about this amazing older dog.

Tank is Heartworm positive, and he has been started on Doxycylcline to treat heartworms and an upper respiratory infection. He has been PCR tested for multiple illnesses and we should have those results before the weekend.

His skin scrape amd ears only revealed yeast, so he has had his ears flushed after receiving a medicated bath. He will be tested with other dogs, and it also will be determined if he is a candidate to be neutered.

At the moment, he could only go into a patient, adult only- NO ANIMALS- home, due to current behavior and medical issues. The rescue will have to practice loading him into a vehicle and a crate (which he had not been receptive too, in the past).

Tank’s BEST OPTION would be a foster-based rescue where he could decompress, heal and acclimate in a quiet foster home environment, but qualified adopters are welcome to inquire & visit.

Donations in Tank’s name will be used to cover any medical costs for him or rescue/transport costs for him and/or his peers here at https://hsctx.harnessgiving.org/donate/…

If any recues are interested in tagging Tank and taking him into your program, please contact our rescue coordinator Julie Morriss at [email protected].

Please continue to share Tank’s story and help this stately pup find a soft and loving retirement.
