In San Bernardino, California, two Labrador retriever mix puppies had been abandoned in the parking lot of a veterinary office this week; one of the puppies suffering from severe burn wounds.

A public plea went out on Thursday from the City of San Bernardino Animal Services asking for help identifying a possible suspect. It had been on April 4, when Animal Services Department officers were called to the West Highland Avenue location after someone abandoned the pups in the parking lot overnight.

one of the puppies had what appeared to be burns to their face, ears and body. the officers quickly brought both puppies back to the San Bernardino Animal Shelter for assessment.

Press release

The veterinary examination revealed the puppy with the burns had suffered severe injuries and needed immediate medical care. Both puppies were transferred to the shelter’s veterinarian; the one puppy that was not injured was cleared. The other puppy, now dubbed Ember, has been receiving care.

Ember’s burns affected her eyes, ears, groin and at least one paw.

based upon how and where the puppies were found, it is believed this may have been an intentional act of animal cruelty. the vet has determined the injuries and wounds were likely caused by fire.

Press release

Ember has been making progress and continues to improve. An experience foster mom has been providing her with round the clock care.

Anyone with information about this case, is asked to contact the San Bernardino Animal Services Department at 909 384.1304 and reference case No.A563955.
