A German shepherd puppy was surrendered by his breeder after having been born missing the lower part of his foot and paw. It was the Mississippi rescue group, Cheshire Abbey who stepped forward and made all the difference in the world for a puppy who likely would have ended up in an area shelter where those not adopted in just a few days wind up being euthanized.

Animal Control Officer Chrissy Cheshire tells the heartwarming story:

last week i was working on a case with the animal control officer in Simpson county and a breeder gave up this precious german shepherd puppy because he limped when he walked and they couldn’t sell him.

And instead of taking the puppy to a kill shelter, Cheshire volunteered to take him. When she posted the puppy’s photo on social media, it wasn’t more than a few minutes when “5 great candidates” offered to adopt him.

in the process of the officer deciding which family they wanted to adopt him, i call the amazing people at Buckner Prosthetics on Lakeland Dr in Flowood to see if they could help, and they were all in!

After it was determined the puppy’s limp had been the result of what was likely a birth defect, the team started making him a foot so he will no longer be in pain when he walks, and his hip can be properly aligned as he grows.

And a very happy beginning for a puppy who now has a loving home and a new leg and paw to enrich his life. Many thanks to the heroes.
