One can only just imagine how cold a January night in St. Louis, Missouri can be, as the wind blows and the snow silently falls. It had been a neighbor who called Stray Rescue of St. Louis to report a stray dog curled up in a tight ball on a nearby porch trying his best to shield himself from the wind.
The dog was brought back to the rescue, and it wasn’t long before staff and volunteers discovered how nice this senior dog was, and how he gently craves attention.
anytime we go spend time with this sweet dog, he does a big stretch and gets off his bed. As we begin petting him, he slowly sinks to the floor. Then he closes his eyes and just melts into the massage.

The rescue has named him Gasper, and the eight-year-old enjoys every caress and scratch offered. He is covered in “lumps and bumps” which are identified as mast cell tumors, so he is considered to be a hospice foster. Still, he might very well have a lot of time left, and is certainly doing well being well fed, warm and feeling senior dog perky.
Volunteers tell us Gasper really enjoys when his human fans make “kissy noises and giant tennis balls” are the “coolest things he has EVER seen.” And when he’s tired or feeling extra affectionate, this sweet old guy leans into his humans and smiles.
