A dog, named Diego, who was found in a nailed up wooden box near the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City has been adopted by the person who found him.
Feleciana Ramirez found the box and while prying the box open, had no idea that there was any life inside of the sealed box. According to 9News, Ramirez hadn’t heard any noises inside of the box, even to indicate life inside; and had felt a heartfelt connection with Diego. Even though the dog needed a lot of care, Ramirez had hoped to be the one who would eventually be able to adopt him.
Going back, this is how Diego was found and was originally sent to the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare and later transferred to Mutt Misfits Animal Rescue Society where he could receive the long term care he needed.
“This beautiful boy was shoved into a dog house that was not much more than a wooden box with barely any room to turn around and then the entrance was boarded up and screwed in place. He was dumped near the river with no food or water for an unknown amount of time, just left to die. Luckily, he was found and rescued. There were scratch marks on the entrance from where he desperately tried to escape. His body is covered in scars and wounds. He is emaciated. He has suffered physically and emotionally, likely far longer than just his time in that box.”
The box the dog, dubbed Diego, had been sealed in had no food or water and was so small the dog barely could move. There was little doubt that whoever had done this, had wanted the dog to die a slow, painful death. The damaged wood around the entrance had claw and bite marks – showing how desperately Diego tried to claw his way out to freedom.
According to Jon Gary, the superintendent at the animal shelter, the dog was extremely malnourished, but even with his harrowing experience, the dog remained very friendly towards people and other dogs at the shelter.
The woman, Feleciana Ramirez and Diego are in love, and we wish them long and loving lives together making all good memories.
