At the Niagara SPCA in Niagara Falls, New York, Ralphie waited quite awhile for a home. The 26-pound black and white adorable pooch is pretty darn adorable, but there was more to this little guy than met the eye.

After his description as a “fire breathing demon dog” circulated social media, it seemed that the perfect adopter who seemed to understand Ralphie’s behavioral oddities, came forward. They hit it off, and the adopter had fallen madly in love. Two weeks later, Ralphie proved to be more than she could handle.

Kudos to her though for making the right decision. There were some bad choices made by both, but they parted ways amicably.

And as the two divvied up their personal belongings , it was clear that Ralphie, although an adorable little chaos pooch, needed more than his new human could provide.

So you are looking at the photo of Ralphie and already defending this little pooch, but there was more to his story, and in case you have forgotten or haven’t kept up with Ralphie’s reputation, here’s how it began:

AT FIRST GLANCE, HE’S AN ADORABLE HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER, YOUNG DOG. PEOPLE SHOULD BE BANGING DOWN OUR DOORS FOR HIM. WE PROMISE YOU THAT WON’T BE THE CASE. RALPHIE IS A TERROR IN A SOMEWHAT SMALL PACKAGE.

And while it saddened everyone at the rescue that Ralphie was returned this weekend, the staff reached out to the dog’s original owner for more information. After gathering more behavior notes, it was decided to reach out to another trainer for Ralphie.

YourEveryDayK9 will be taking Ralphie into their program: “How To Train Your Dragon in Six Weeks.”

Seriously, Ralphie is now enrolled in the six week room, board and training program. Trainer Chris will be getting acquainted with Ralphie and will be working on the dog’s training program.

…It may not be feasible for Ralphie’s adopter to live out of the area. We will want the adopter to work with Chris and Ralphie at Chris’ facility and then he will be placed into the home immediately following board and train. Follow-ups are included for the adopter.

The rescue organization is clear that anyone believing the following please NOT apply to adopt Ralphie:

Anyone that thinks all Ralphie needs is love. He will “totally exploit that.”

Anyone who thinks the restrictions do not apply to them including no other animals or children. Ralphie has a history of biting. If interested in adopting Ralphie, please send a letter of interest and dog experience “resume” and include why you believe your home is the right place for Ralphie to live.

Ralphie’s room, board and training will cost $6,000. Donations to help Ralphie’s education will be appreciated. Yes, we are all saddened that Ralphie was returned, but be reassured the kind folks at the Niagara SPCA are not giving up.
