In Porter, Texas, a stray pup known as Jughead, has finally been freed from the cat feeder stuck on his head for more than a month. The dog had been spotted running around since October 21; another red dog had been his companion. It is thought his head got stuck trying to get to the cat food at the very bottom of the container.

According to the Facebook page of rescuer, Teri Goodnight, who has been trapping stray dogs for years, took a special interest in the Labrador retriever mix. The good news, however was that Jughead was able to breathe, eat and drink since the side part of the plastic feeder had an opening.

Jughead’s rescue attempts, however had been met with a litany of obstacles:

This container has been stuck on this dogs head since Oct. 21, I’ve been trying to trap him since Oct. 27 but the problem is people won’t stop trying to catch him & it has absolutely hindered my efforts. He bolts any time he sees a person but people still seem to think that he’s just magically going to let someone walk up to him if they keep trying….THAT’S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!! I’ve had to move my trap 4 times & have made 18 trips to porter, that’s 70 miles round trip & my truck only gets 8 mpg…..YES, I’ve already spent $550 out of my pocket just in fuel trying to trap this dog

In addition, Animal Control officers had been out in the area numerous times trying to dart Jughead, but all they did was chase him off. And then it took days until the dogs returned to the familiar area.

It had then been in the middle of November that Jughead and his pal Red were captured in a humane cage Teri had baited with food.

Check out their story here:

The dogs are currently in the care of East Texas Hoof and Paw Animal Rescue.

We had been watching the story of “Jughead” for weeks and waited and waited for him to be caught, surely we figured another rescue would step up for him (and his friend “Red”) but none did ~ thanks to a local foster for offering a place for them, we were able to help.

Reminder that ETHAP is strictly a foster based rescue and we can only continue to help with the help of our reliable fosters. Fostering truly does save a life!! Thank you to all involved especially the efforts…
