On Thursday morning, a Maricopa County Animal Care & Control West shelter employee arrived for work and noticed an individual placing something in a trash bin outside of the shelter. At first, the employee thought the person had been dropping off blankets or towels, and just in case the blankets had been meant to be donations instead of trash, the staff member asked a few questions; the individual continued to walk away and did not respond.

According to the shelter’s Facebook page, the staff member then asked if a dog had been left in the trash? The individual then yelled at the employee, who asked the person to visit during open shelter hours, in order that assistance could be offered if needed. Instead the person left and drove away.

Inside of the trash container was a pug puppy who immediately won everyone’s hearts. Fortunately, she is happy, energetic and eating well. She has been named Dumpling, and this little adorable pooch is now available for adoption.

It is illegal to abandon an animal, and the Maricopa County Animal Care & Control does offer multiple programs to assist individuals in crisis with their pets. Reach out and ask! So many times, people with huge hearts and earnest solutions are just a phone call or a visit away.
