In Houston, Texas, a frosted face oldster landed at one of the local shelters. He’s 12-years-old, and he no longer had a home after his long time human recently passed away. Mufasa had mustered up all of his loyalty, and just stayed next to his lifeless human for nearly a week, when the landlord called animal control to take the dog away.

According to the landlord, Mufasa had been at the home for a long time with his owner; how confused and sad the senior dog must have felt when he was taken to the shelter and placed in a cage alone.

Sadly, the man had no relatives, and Mufasa wasn’t a fan of the shelter atmosphere. He had been snarling and lunging at workers and volunteers. Therefore, at 12-years-old and not very cooperative, the senior had been placed on the euthanasia list.

And Sunday could have been Mufasa’s last day of life, but ThisIsHouston came along at the perfect time. Mufasa, very much reminded volunteers of Bear – a dog who has wandered the streets for eight years with a huge tumor on the side of his face.

My worst fear, being a dog mom. This old man was NOT doing well at BARC. He acted as most of our own dogs would, in this situation. ☹️Thankfully he landed the jackpot with ThisIsHouston!

Given his age (he isn’t super adoptable) and will likely be a fospice situation. Please help share for donations, to his ongoing care

As to Mufasa’s condition; he is geriatric, has clumps of matted hair and lots of hair loss on his rear quarters. He has overgrown nails, is undernourished and suffers from an upper respiratory infection.

Fortunately ThisIsHouston has a foster home who has a soft spot for seniors and who has decided to take a chance on Mufasa. He has been warming up a bit to his new environment, but it will take time for him to decompress and adjust to a new life.

ThisIsHouston will take good care of Mufasa until he is ready to rejoin his owner one day. May his owner Rest In Peace. Your dog is in good hands.
