A 19-year-old Texas woman has been arrested for allegedly leaving her roommate’s dog outside in the intense summer heat without any protection from the elemebts. As reported by KBTX News, the person accused of causing the dog’s death is identified as Jacie Renee Martino of College Station.
Police responded to a home on the 700 block of Navarro Drive in College Station after a concerned neighbor called to report a dead dog in the backyard. When officers arrived, on the 102-degree day, they observed a dead dog through the fence. The dog was tethered to a post and did not have access to food, water, or shelter.
Officers were able to contact the deceased dog’s owner by phone – the person informed them that she was out of town and had left her dog in the care of a roommate for six days. The roommate admitted to the police that she forgot about the dog. Martino last saw the dog tethered to the post on June 22 – the dog apparently had no food, water, or care, for the next several days. On June 26, the dog was found dead.
A necropsy revealed, “evidence of severe dehydration and lack of food ingestion. Dehydration can result from not drinking enough fluid or by fluid loss from vomiting, diarrhea, and environmental factors,”
Martino was arrested and booked into the Brazos County Jail on a $5,000 bond on July 13.

OH COME ON! She forgot about the dog for 4 days? Certainly the dog barked once in awhile. It’s too bad the neighbor didn’t notice the poor dog before it was dead. She deserves the maximum punishment which probably will amount to a slap on the wrist. It’s time these morons get a punishment they deserve. This is plain simple MURDER!
