Animal Aid Unlimited is a rescue-center, hospital and sanctuary for street animals in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. A Good Samaritan notified rescuers about Silky, explaining the dog had been struck by a vehicle and was paralyzed from her waist down – dragging her hind legs in a circle and in a pure panic just trying to survive.

Silky’s spine had been damaged, and her rear legs just hung loosely behind her; the pain had been excruciating. As rescuers approached her, she appeared to be terrified, and why not? She was in terrible pain, and she couldn’t escape. She had not been accustomed to human contact, however she had no choice but to tentatively trust.

When brought to the hospital and placed on the examining table, Silky seemed to relax. The staff gently examined her injuries while quietly speaking to her and rubbing her head, neck and shoulders.

The treatment plan was to be six weeks of bedrest to give the swelling on her spine to subside and a chance for her fractured back to heal. Of course, Silky didn’t understand why she was placed in a kennel with soft blankets and towels to make her more comfortable, but the gentle care, the regular meals and the rest would soon make a difference.

Silky had been placed in a portable kennel with many of the other animals around her to keep her interested.

And then the changes started to be noticed. After a few more weeks, daily physiotherapy session with touching, caressing and lots of love not only helped her body, but her spirit too. And after six weeks of rest, little changes turned to big changes.

See for yourself.
