A man has been arrested for an animal cruelty case involving a five-year-old dog who was stuffed into a crate and abandoned outside of a Freeport, New York, animal shelter. According to News 12 Long Island, 41-year-old Damian Douglas is facing two misdemeanor charges for the abandonment of the emaciated, injured dog dubbed Athena.
The Nassau County SPCA had a $6,000 reward offered for information leading to an arrest. The abandoned dog was left at 4:44 a.m. outside of Bobbi and the Strays on July 7 – according to the animal welfare agency, she was suffering from starvation and serious injuries when she was found.
The accused man is due in court today.
