In Borger, Texas, the Borger Animal Control rescued a German shepherd on Monday from Baytown. The dog was found by an animal control officer wandering around the city.

So this starts off as a story about a dog that was about to be reunited with her family, but read on because this story about this dog named Sheba is one in a million; in fact the dog’s human family said it was as if they had won the lottery. Their lost dog had been found 600 miles away from Baytown. When the dog was scanned, she had a microchip.

According to Sheba’s owner, Stephanie Malmstom, she had not seen her dog since she was only eight-months-old.

I got a text message and a phone call from City of BorgerCity of Borger / Hutchinson County OEM animal control about 11am today telling me they found our German Shepherd Sheba that was stolen over 5 years ago!!

My initial thought was, ok, ya right, let me guess, I won a cruise and a million dollars also!

After speaking with animal control Officer Harper, he told me he seen (sic) her walking in a neighborhood, she was extremely friendly and jumped right in his truck! He brought her back to their facility, scanned her, and found my info that was linked to her chip and began the process of reaching out to me!

In January 2018, Sheba’s family had been visiting a neighbor, and when they returned home, their dog was missing. Security video showed someone taking the dog from the yard and luring her into their truck with a treat. Sadly, the family never heard from their pup again even though they did everything they could to find her. Sheba even had her own Facebook page – Saving Sheba.

After all that time, any hope for finding Sheba had all but disappeared; that is until Monday when Stephanie received a call from Borger telling her they had found her dog. Soon after Sheba’s identity was established, they all Face Timed with their dog.

There are amazing people in this state working towards flying Sheba home on a private jet thru an organization known as Pilots N Paws @ https://www.pilotsnpaws.org/

Borger Animal Shelter Advocate/VOLUNTEER Page has been amazing, they are caring for Sheba until she’s reunited with us by taking her to the vet and giving her lots of loving!

Tomorrow is my birthday and this is by far the BEST present I could have ever asked for!!

Stephanie can’t stress enough that everyone should make sure their pets are microchipped and their information kept current. And even though Sheba has obviously aged in the nearly five years, it is hoped she will remember her real family and come running into their arms.

Borger Animal Control will partner with the Borger Police Department to host a pet microchipping event on Aug. 14 at Ace Hardware. Kidprint IDs will also be available at the event.
