At the city shelter in Wichita, Kansas, volunteers from Beauties and Beasts, Inc. regularly visit and try to save lives. Sometimes, the urgency becomes overwhelming, and on Tuesday, when Jazmine sent a video of a sweet Rottweiler pup listed on “death row” for lunging at the accessor when the chip scanner beeped and scared her, everyone’s heart nearly shattered.

We instantly fell in love and immediately started reaching out to rescues because we literally have nowhere for these dogs to go.

Often the “best laid plans of mice and men often go awry” occurred just one day later as Dina’s plight began circulating on social media, hoping to find an approved rescue organization to help. Just hours later, the staff was devastated when they found out Dina had been stricken with the deadly parvo virus and was given a deadline to be out of the shelter by the end of the business day, or she would need to be humanely euthanized.

We begged and pleaded with the other rescues as we already have 2 large adult dogs and 3 puppies hospitalized with parvo and our vets had no room to treat another large dog in ISO, nobody saved her and her time was up.

The only option with round the clock care and the prescribed treatment available was Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita. Typical treatment for the first 24/48 hours of hospitalization is estimated at $2,000 to $3,000 and treatment can typically take from five to seven days, depending on severity, and/or if she is strong enough to survive.

Dina has since been transported to the emergency room care under Beauties and Beasts Inc. Donations can be made directly to the rescue organization’s account by calling Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita at 316.262.5321.
