In Memphis, Tennessee, a loose camel reportedly killed two people on Thursday afternoon. The Obion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call of a loose camel near Shirley Farms in Obion; the site of a petting zoo.

According to the Obion County Sheriff’s Office press release, when deputies arrived they found two victims, Bobby Matheny, 42, and Tommy Gunn, 67, unconscious while the camel remained loose.

The camel also attacked the Obion County Sheriff’s Office vehicle and moved towards deputies who were attempting to move one of the victims to EMS. It was at this time officers had to put the camel down for the safety of everyone on scene. The two victims did succumb to their injuries and were pronounced dead on scene.

A family member of one of the victims told WTVF  the two men had been at the farm and tried to help capture the animal, however the camel cornered them and is alleged to have kicked and stomped the men to death.

The owner of the farm, Alan Shirley has not made any statements at this time.

An investigation continues.
