Ukrainian soldiers rescued an abandoned dog in an area that had been reclaimed from Russian forces about a week ago. The soldiers found the black, shaggy-hair pooch in an apartment building while inspecting abandoned homes on the frontline near Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv, the BBC reported. When the soldier played a toy music box, the dog came out to meet him happily wagging his tail seemingly glad for someone coming to help him.

The soldier and the Schnauzer, named Bavaria, made an immediate connection, and the soldier led the dog out of the home. He was brought to the center where Veretilnyk volunteers to help frontline soldiers and who decided to offer Bavaria a loving home.

According to Yahoo News, when Vertilnyk brought Bavaria home, her cat Kasus had not been thrilled about the new arrival and climbed on top of the refrigerator to claim some space away from the large canine. Bavaria hasn’t shown any animosity towards the cat, and Kasus may very well be playing the “victim,” however everyone is getting the love they deserve.

Whether Bavaria will ever be reunited with his family is unknown, but for now he’s safe, Vertilnyk is happy, but as for Kasus, hopefully he will find peace with the latest family addition.
