In Bournemouth, Dorset, the cruel owner of a dog filmed on surveillance video pinning his dog by the neck before throwing it against the wall and repeatedly kicking and punching it, was banned on Thursday from having any animals for the next three years.
According to the Bournemouth Echo, Jamie Dennis Gordon Elsworthy, 40, had been in a beer garden in April 2019, when he lost his temper at the dog. With that, Elsworthy grabbed the dog by its neck and repeatedly beat the defenseless pooch in the face and head. At the time, police didn’t know who he was and posted a plea to the public, accompanied by the video, asking for information and help identifying the man in the video.
On Friday, Elsworthy pleaded guilty to animal cruelty; also included in sentencing was the magistrate’s order to serve 80 hours of unpaid work, pay a victim’s surcharge and court costs. In addition, because he failed to surrender to custody last year after having been ordered by the court, he was ordered to complete an additional 100 hours of unpaid work.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) claimed the sentence was too lenient. Too often violent animal offenders become dangers to humans.
The charge was brought under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. Fortunately, the dog did not suffer any lasting injuries.
