In Pearl River, Louisiana, the operator of a greyhound rescue has been charged with animal cruelty. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Leslie Ezkovich-Tiereny on Monday.
The name of her operation was It’s a Grey Area Greyhound Adoption Inc., and cared for retired racing greyhounds. Ezkovich-Tiereny responded with the following on the group’s Facebook page:

“I’m going to comment once. We have been sick and yeah some dogs had diarrhea because they were overfed while we were hospitalized , were some dogs dirty yes, a few were skinny but far from neglected. Was the house a mess ? Yes again dogs were not neglected. They came before us … I wont go down without a fight.”
According to WwltvNews, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies and animal control officers arrived at the rescue in Pearl River on Monday and found dogs covered in urine and feces with many of the dogs dehydrated and malnourished. Several of the dogs also suffered from sores having been locked in kennels for more than 20 hours a day.
On Monday, a Facebook post stated the rescue is permanently closed.
The investigation continues and more arrests are possible.
