In Texarkana, Arkansas, a man is alleged to have shot a blind dog five times because it had an accident in the house earlier in the day. Charles Shuttleworth, 35, was arrested on June 10 and faces felony animal cruelty charges after neighbors residing on 34th Street called police after hearing a woman screaming.
According to the Texarkana Gazette, deputies from the Texarkana Police Department arrived at the home of a woman who stated she had been sleeping on the living room sofa when she heard loud bangs. She rushed into the kitchen and found her 15-year-old blind Blue Heeler, named Lefty lying in a pool of blood on the floor.
The woman claimed Shuttleworth was extremely intoxicated at the time he shot and killed Lefty and had been angry with the dog because of his incontinence earlier in the day.
Lefty had been blind for the last few years, but according to his owner was otherwise “healthy and full of life.”
Shuttleworth has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty and was released after posting a $25,000 bond. If found guilty, he faces a maximum sentence of six years in prison.
Rest in peace Lefty.
