A tourist from Michigan was charged and arrested on Saturday for harassment and egg molestation of marine turtles on a Miami beach. Yaqun Lo, 41, had removed one of the wooden stakes in a closed off area around the perimeter of the nest.

According to News10, yellow tape circled the area around the nest and a “Do Not Disturb” signed warned onlookers to stay a safe distance away from the mother turtle and her eggs.

Lo had jabbed at the eggs and walked over them with her bare feet.

Loggerhead, Green and Leatherback turtles are protected by the US Endangered Species Act of 1973 and Florida Statute Chapter 370. Touching nesting females, taking flash pictures of nesting females or hatchlings, or digging into nests is prohibited by law. The turtles nesting season is from May 1 through October 31.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission determined that none of the eggs had been damaged.

  1. WTF was this POS thinking??? I don’t understand WHY this POS thought that her actions were “OK”…… One can fix many things, but it’s absolutely impossible to fix stupid……

IMHO throw the book at her: huge fines, jail time AND deportation (if she isn’t yet a US citizen)…….
