In Pala, California, a man rushed past firemen during a house fire in order to save his dog. The home had been completely engulfed in flames, yet that didn’t stop Jose Guzman from rescuing Gabanna, his two-year-old blue nose pit bull.

According to KUSI News, Guzman ran through a “curtain of fire where my van was and fence. I didn’t know what was behind that, decided to come here anyways,” he said.

Guzman knew Gabanna was trapped in the house and tried to carefully stay in the middle of the fire as he had little light as to where he was going. And moments later, he found the dog – she had been hiding behind the toilet. Guzman said he did not realize that he had been burned on his face and arms, until the rescue was over. The dog was singed on her nose and paws.

The family had only lived in the home for a few months when the fire broke out, and nearly all of their personal belongings were lost in the fire,  that is, except for the humans and their dog who has always been a cherished member of the family.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help.

  1. I am sure most of us would have done the same! Love and blessings to them both! Will spread the word for donations!

  2. It’s good to see someone who would risk their life for their dog. Most of the stories we see are about abuse. I’m glad Mr Guzman was able to save his dog and himself. Prayers for a swift recovery.
