In Pensacola, Florida, two people were arrested on Sunday for leaving their puppy inside of a car that registered 109 degrees. Kylane Gray and Scotlyn Odom, both 21, have been charged with animal cruelty by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Pennsacola News Journal, a crowd gathered around a Hyundai Elantra at about 4:30 p.m. and stood by the car for about 15 minutes waiting for the owners to return before calling the police. The Good Samaritans tried to give the dog water, but the windows were only cracked; people did squirt water onto the dog to cool him down.
When Gray and Odom returned, they claimed they were only taking a shower and getting water for their puppy, however they didn’t have any container carrying water with them. The animal control officer reported the dog had been panting heavily and had he stayed in the car any longer, he would have suffered heat related consequences.
Both Gray and Odom were transferred to the Escambia County Jail and have since been released on $500 bond each. The puppy was seized by animal control.
What were they thinking? This is Florida!
