A Texas animal shelter is scrambling to make adoptions happen after a deluge of pets were surrendered over the holiday weekend. A staggering number of cats and dogs were brought to the Harris County Animal Shelter over the three-day weekend and it has overwhelmed the facility.

The animal shelter is designed to hold 150 pets, but there are 375 unwanted cats and dogs inside of the building right now reports the Huffington Post. On Tuesday, the volunteer-run Facebook page for the shelter reached out to the public for help:

Over the weekend, the shelter had the highest intake of animals so far this year. They received almost 200 animals in just 3 days! Right now they have 375 animals available for adoption or foster. We need your HELP! If you have been thinking of adopting or fostering now is the time to take action.

What you can do to help this situation

If you live near this animal shelter and are considering adoption, please visit the facility to see if there is a pet who may fit in at your household. If you have ever considered fostering a pet, please reach out to the animal shelter to let them know. If you live out of the area, you can still lend at hand by sharing this information with others who may live nearby.

This really pisses me off why take on a dog or a cat then discard it because of a 3 day weekend FFS. As taking on a dog cat means life until they die

You have a pet for life, not until it’s “inconvenient’……

I want to take all the chihuahuas and foster them…… will they be willing to transfer them to Northern California???

People really suck!!!!!!!!!! Really?????. Is this your only solution????? Do not ever get another animal if this is what you do. Dump them at a shelter!!!!!!! that’s the most irresponsible disgusting thing an owner could do!!!!!!

Fuck maggots who do this. Organisms that dump pets DON’T qualify as human beings because they know nothing about being human. This is one of the reasons I become more misanthropic with each passing day.
