In Sterling, Virginia, the owner of a seven-month-old puppy has been charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor animal cruelty charge for allegedly beating his black Labrador retriever with a baseball bat.
According to WdcwNews, Kevin R. Graves, 30, has been served with a warrant for his arrest by Loudoun County Animal Services. Graves was seen by witnesses beating the puppy on August 31. According to court records, Graves admitted beating the puppy named Buddy because he defecated in his crate. LCAS Chief Mark Stacks stated the puppy suffered significant injuries to his head and neck, but is currently undergoing treatment. The veterinary staff is hoping he makes a full recovery.
Buddy is now staying with a foster family who have fallen in love with him and plan to officially adopt him after he recovers. He has since been renamed Sako.
Graves is scheduled to appear in Loudoun County General District Court on Oct. 4; he faces up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 if convicted.
