UPDATE: CLEMENT IS SAFE! He was rescued by Hope Animal Rescue! Thank you for saving him and thank you all for sharing him and sending so much love his way

Gentle soul Clement has a story to tell, and through a volunteer at the Hoke County Animal Shelter this four-year-old pittie mix has a voice. Kristi, a volunteer with the shelter located in Raeford, North Carolina, interacted with Clement on Friday. And so it began:

“It breaks my heart every single time I meet a dog like this. The most loving gentle soul you can ever imagine wrapped in an exterior that has been hungry, hurt and so alone,” Kristi wrote on the Facebook page Assisting the Hoke Co. Animal Shelter in Raeford, N.C.  “He was so happy when I came in his kennel to sit with him.”

Moments later Clement crawled into her lap and contentedly curled up to take a nap.

“I sat there wondering how long it had been if ever – since he had a warm lap to curl up in or a hand to pet him and comfort him. Sadly I have to wonder if he will ever get these things again, if he will ever find a loving home or if this is the last stop in his long hard journey,” the volunteer continued.

As most animal advocates wonder how people can be so cruel, Clement’s life hangs by a thread; a dog who deserves a loving home and one who seemed to get along with other dogs at the shelter thus far.

“Even though he was super hungry he turned down a treat because he would rather have been getting love,” Kristi wrote.

Clement was treated to a warm, soapy bath where all of the dirt was scrubbed away and the fleas were killed. Perhaps given his first soft bed, Clement curled up; he was happy nearly grinning from ear to ear.

“He has curled up in my heart and made his self comfortable just like he did my lap. I’m asking all of you to please share him so hopefully the perfect person will see his story and want to rescue him,” Stephanie pleads.

This boy will be available for adoption on Tuesday. Share this dog’s story with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. He has not been tested with children or cats. On Friday there were no children around, and the staff didn’t want to overwhelm him with the cats in the shelter. For more information, call the Hoke County Animal Shelter at 910.875.4827.

  1. This dog definitely would be the best family dog ever. Wants to be around people and give and get loving hugs and kisses. He looks so cute in his soft bed, nice and clean too. A picture like that makes you cry because you know that dog never had a bath or comfy bed like that before. Pray people network him and that his family will be there soon to adopt him.

  2. Clement, I’m praying for you precious pup. May the Lord bless you with a loving forever homesoon, hopefully you will enjoy the holidays in your forever cozy home with a loving and caring family. God bless you and good luck, sweet baby. ♥️????????????♥️

  3. Another innocent pit bull or pit bull mix who has the unfortunate reputation of being a dangerous aggressive animal – pit bulls are great dogs, I am so sick and tired of people who actually believe they are dangerous – they are only reacting to the horrific treatment dealt to them by the REAL dangerous ones – HUMANS. Clement deserves a safe loving home. Why is it only the volunteers seem to care?

  4. These poor, precious, misunderstood dogs, they can be so loving if treated well. Hopefully he will find a fantastic guardian who will love and treasure him for the remainder of his years. Thank you Hope Animal Rescue for saving this sad little soul.
