Franklin County Sheriff’s K9 Officer Major died this week after having been shot and killed during an armed robbery shootout on Sunday. K9 Major had been released into a crawl space to apprehend a barricaded suspect when the man fired at the dog with his AK-47 rifle, killing Major during crossfire.

According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office – K-9 Unit, the suspect then exited the crawl space and surrendered to authorities.

Corporal James Larivier was Major’s handler, and the two had been an inseparable pair both at work and at home. Major loved his job and kept his officers safe, making the community a better place to live.

Our condolences go out to our partners at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, after K9 Major was shot and killed by an armed robbery suspect on Sunday. Today, we kneel for his family and for our brothers that worked with him. Tomorrow, we will stand for him.
