It seems we all know a tough looking fireman – especially a captain, who has for years been a rock of bravery and heroics helping to save property and lives alike. When local fire captain John Sammon retired after 30 years, one might never have expected such a poignant reaction. Trust me – we never saw this mushy one coming.
In a now viral video on social media platform Tik Tok, Sammon’s wife Dianne shows the couple enjoying retirement, but Diane wanted something special for her husband, and it was to be a surprise. And with more than one-million views, that ten-pound special surprise left all of our hearts smiling. The viral video shows Dianne asking her husband for help getting something out of the trunk of her vehicle.
And John followed his wife to the rear of their car and when she opened the trunk, John just stared in amazement for a few seconds. There, cuddled up in a tiny ball donning a bow around his neck, was an eight-week-old English Labrador retriever. Moments later, the big, burly fire chief carefully picked up the puppy, cuddled him into his arms and fell in love.
The joyful experience wasn’t over yet. Their daughter was also surprised and when she was handed over the adorable pooch, she too broke down. Like her father, she started baby-talking the cutie and appeared to shed a few happy tears.
What makes this puppy even more special likely dates back to the recent loss of their other dog to old age.
