A spunky bald eagle in Paris, Missouri is recovering at the Raptor Rehabilitation Project after a poacher shot him with two shotgun pellets embedded in his wing. The property owner saw the magnificent bird and alerted the Department of Conservation in Missouri.

According to AbcNews, the female eagle was found in a cornfield after the landowner called to report he had seen the injured bird in the same spot for several days in a row.  Agents Sean Ernst and Haeley Fichler used a blanket to wrap up the bird and transported her to the University of Missouri affiliated rehabilitation center where veterinarians found the two bullets lodged in her broken wing.

The bird is expected to make a full recovery. The shooting of the bird sparked outrage on social media. It is a federal crime to harm a bald eagle.

It is not known who shot the bird; the department is investigating.
