Just this week, in New Kent County, Virginia, a pregnant dog discovered with a cable snare trap around her neck, causing her head to swell nearly twice its size and endangering the life of her unborn puppy has been making a miraculous recovery.

It had been on January 19, the dog named Maude, was found near a local intersection near New Kent Highway. There had been a metal wire wrapped tightly around her neck which had caused serious head swelling, making it difficult for her to even breathe.
When she was captured, she was transported to a nearby veterinary hospital, where the staff and volunteers caring for her, were pleased with how well she was recovering.

The New Kent Sheriff’s Office Animal Protection Department says her neck is healing well; the swelling to her face has resolved, and she is happy to see and meet new people . The Animal Protection Department added they can’t believe this is the same dog. She is still being closely monitored since she is pregnant and has been reported to be carrying one puppy.

Her injuries have been attributed to the cable-style snare which is commonly used to trap wildlife.
Those involved in Maude’s care extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated and shared her story, saying the overwhelming community support not only covered her emergency veterinary treatment but played a critical role in saving her life.
The New Kent Sheriff’s Office continues to ask for the public’s help for information. Someone knows where this trap came from, and someone may know who Maude belonged to.
