The Lady Lake Police near Central Florida, arrested a woman on Saturday charging her with animal cruelty after they rescued a puppy left inside of a hot vehicle. Officers stated the pup had been locked in the parked car for at least 40 minutes at a shopping center.

Officers had received a report from a concerned shopper walking to her vehicle and spotted the puppy who had been inside of the hot car with slightly ajar windows. Temperatures outside exceeded 92 degrees, and officers saw the black puppy panting heavily and showing signs of distress.
Lady Lake Police officers Jeffrey Burns and Michael Tisdell located the car parked in direct sunlight with the dog inside. Her tongue was extended and she was crying, desperately trying to scratch her way out of the vehicle.

Officers were able to unlock the door of the vehicle and remove the puppy. She was given water and placed in the air-conditioned patrol vehicle. The puppy drank an entire bottle of water and appeared to recover after she rested and cooled down.

The puppy’s owner, Yeneese Morejon, 26, was arrested for alleged animal cruelty and transported to the Lake County Jail. She stated she was only inside “like 30 seconds” and that the store “line was long.”
Our officers acted quickly and compassionately to save this puppy from a potentially deadly situation. We are grateful for the vigilance of the citizen who called 911 and for the care shown by the officers who responded. Leaving an animal inside a vehicle in Florida heat, even for a short time, can quickly become fatal.
The Lady Lake Police Department want to remind residents that temperatures inside a parked vehicle can rise above 110 degrees within minutes; even when outside temperatures range from 70 to 90 degrees.
Pets should never be left unattended inside a vehicle without proper air conditioning and supervision. Please be respectful of the summer heat – especially inside automobiles.
Leave your pets at home.
