Early in the morning on April 24 at Santa Cruz Island, an around-the-clock viewing camera at the Fraser Point nest picked up a tiny eaglet tumbling out of its nest. The Institute for Wildlife Studies, a nonprofit organization was immediately notified.
According to the Instagram page for the organization, Erin Weiner, the project leader headed for the island to study the situation and see how the chick was doing. She hoped to be able to return the chick to its nest if it had not been injured. If he was hurt, she planned on transporting him to a wildlife facility.
Fortunately, the eaglet was fine; Erin named him Ryder and slowly climbed up to the nest, carefully placing him alongside of his family.

Ryder is the third chick to hatch this season for Andor and Cruz; their nest mates Sasha and Zuma hatched on April 2.
The family has lots of fans around California and the Fraser Point nest cams are able to capture the amazing interactions of the family as the bonded parents carefully raise their young.
