At the Bayou Animal Services & Adoption Center in Dickinson, Texas, Lucas arrived at the shelter back in January after he had been picked up by an animal control officer. The young pup had been scavenging the streets trying his best to survive.
When Lucas arrived at the shelter, he was severely emaciated, weighing only 21 pounds. In addition, life had not been kind; he was terrified of the world around him, even though the look on his face and his tentative steps towards rescuers, indicated he desperately wanted to trust someone.

It had been an incredible foster family who made the difference for Lucas. With time, patience and love, Lucas began to heal. Day by day, he gained weight and confidence. He began to feel safe and that humans really do care.

Today, he returned to the shelter to be neutered. Now, just a few months later, Lucas weighs 50 pounds, and he has the best news to share with readers. His foster family officially adopted him!
Many thanks to all foster families who renew the faith, health and confidence in the dogs they care for while they heal and recuperate. These are the life-changing journeys we always are proud to share.
