A five-month-old Corgi named Winston arrived at My Why Rescue in Naples, Florida earlier this year on February 21, as an emergency case after his owner requested the puppy be euthanized. Winston was not able to move his hind legs, and although his owners had no prognosis nor had they taken him to a veterinarian for an examination, they wanted his young life to end.

According to his owners, Winston had been fine, but the next moment the puppy was not able to walk. He could have been involved in a car accident, but no information as to how he suffered from the injuries was never explained. The puppy was diagnosed with a hernia and bilateral fractures in both of his back legs.

It has not been explained what caused Winston’s injuries and whether he may have been subjected to severe abuse, but his resilience to live gave his rescuers and supporters hope. He underwent surgery to repair his hernia and a subsequent surgical procedure to repair his leg fractures.

Yes, Winston is a survivor!
After being discharged from the hospital, he was transferred to a foster home and began a regimen of laser, water and physical therapy to regain the use of his legs.

By the end of March, Winston’s consistent therapy has been strategic helping him to rebuild the muscles in his hind legs. He’s an incredibly sweet little dog, and despite the unknown neglect and cruelty he has been through, he still loves everyone.

And now here’s where the drumrolls commence. On April 7, Winston has been adopted. He will continue his therapy, but the resilient little guy remains a love pup.

Winston has officially been adopted and we truly could not have dreamed of a more perfect match for this incredible little survivor. After everything he endured — the trauma, multiple surgeries, and weeks of rehabilitation — seeing Winston step into a loving forever home is the moment we have all been working toward.

Winston has officially been adopted by Andrew and Adlai, and we could not have dreamed of a more perfect match. While he continues his therapy in Delray Beach, his future is already so bright—soon he’ll be jet-setting and spending his summer in East Hampton, NY.
Happy Tails sweet boy- May you live a happy and healthy long life.
