Animal Rescue Corps (ARC), a 501(c)(3) national nonprofit animal protection organization, responded to an urgent situation in rural Missouri on Friday involving 18 dogs and puppies in critical need of rescue.

When rescuers arrived, some of the dogs had been living chained outdoors in the inclement weather. Others were running loose. Just a few days ago, one of the puppies had been struck and killed by a car on the nearby road.

Most of the dogs are infested with fleas, ticks and other parasites. Some dogs are suffering from injuries. One pregnant dog is severely underweight while other dogs suffer from neglect.
As temperatures drop into the low teens, the lives of the dogs and puppies would have been in imminent danger. None of the dogs have adequate shelter.

Unfortunately, there are no local resources to respond to the emergency, and no other rescues would step up or volunteer to help out. Therefore, the ARC refused to turn their backs, and for the last two days have been at the scene.
The initial rescue plans include emergency shelter and warmth accommodations, food, veterinary care and vaccinations. From there, the dogs will need transport and safe placement.
This is so heartbreaking; these innocent victims are in crisis.
