Heartbreaking isn’t enough to describe the plight of an abandoned dog left on the roof of a building at 1989 Atlantic Avenue in the Bed-Stuy area of Brooklyn this past week.
On November 9, police responded to a 311 complaint of an abandoned dog on the roof of a vacant commercial building. The dog, a Rottweiler mix known by neighbors as Ziggy, was found muzzled, chained and without food and water. The NYPD Emergency Service rescued the dog and took him to an emergency animal hospital. A veterinarian examination reported the dog had been malnourished.

The ASPCA was notified, and the dog was taken to an animal hospital for treatment. The dog is now in the ASPCA’s care.
Police arrested 47-year-old Yasunari Ikuma the next day inside the same location. He is facing charges for torture, injuring, not feeding an animal and abandonment of animals.
The ASPCA is now caring for the dog.
