The public’s help is needed identifying the person responsible for an abandoned dog’s “unimaginable suffering.”

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department and Louisville Metro Animal, a very sweet and injured dog now named “Halo” was found by a Good Samaritan on September 9, 2025. That person contacted animal control. The dog was transported to Jefferson Animal Hospital for life saving care and ultimately being transported to the Arrow Fund.

it took almost a year for Halo’s body to get to this state of emaciation with open, seeping pressure wounds. During that year, no one came to his aid. No one fed him. No human spoke up for him.
As horrific as outright physical abuse of an innocent animal is, it is difficult to even imagine the indifference necessary for a human to witness one slowly starve to death.
As of October 2025, Halo remains with The Arrow Fund and is receiving ongoing care and treatment. The rescue organization has been accepting donations to aid in his recovery.
Halo was since been re-evaluated at the vet’s office. He was stable enough to be vaccinated and have bloodwork done to determine if his organs (that have worked so hard just to sustain his life) will be able to withstand surgery soon to close his deeper wounds. He will have hydrotherapy to ease any stress on his fragile body as he recovers. He has now gained four pounds and is on a path to better health.
It is believed Halo had been confined to a small kennel for an extended period of time. He lived in his own feces and urine. Because of the extended exposure to the bacteria, he developed deep and painful pressure wounds.
Investigators from the police department suspect Halo had been kept at an apartment complex located along Garrison Road in Louisville. More information is needed, and detectives are reaching out to the public for additional information.
The LMPD is requesting help from the public to find the person responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call the anonymous tip line at (502) 574-LMPD (5673) or submit a tip online.
Halo is described as resting comfortably in foster care and will eventually be available for adoption.
