In East Montpelier, Vermont, three stray animals have an inseparable bond. Meet River, Rain and Reed who were found together and arrived at the Central Vermont Humane Society just a few weeks ago.

On March 3, the closely bonded trio were found roaming the streets of Williamstown. They were all in need of baths and veterinarian care and have been spending the last few weeks recovering. River had serious skin issues which have significantly improved, and the good news – her coat is growing back.

The dogs adjusted quickly to shelter life, but Reed wouldn’t tolerate being separated from her pals. And as anyone who has had the privilege of sharing their life with a cat, know that cats are rather picky who they choose as their close friends. In this case, Reed wouldn’t think of losing her canine friends, River and Rain. Once the dogs were brought into the cat room, Reed was thrilled.

Do you remember the movie “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey”? It was the 1993 movie starring Chance, an American bulldog, Shadow, a senior golden retriever and Sassy, a Himalayan cat. Because of missed and confusing messages, the three headed home via the wilderness of the Sierra Nevada, and their adventures and trials are narrated by Michael J. Fox, Sally Field and Don Ameche. There are some very tearful situations, but there is a happy ending as the three find their way home.

And here we have a true to life Homeward Bound story! In a recent update on the rescue organization’s social media page, the three also seem to be heading to a happily ever-after ending. On Friday, they started a foster-to-adopt trial. It’s important for all that these sweet souls are in the best environment for their needs, so the humans and pets alike will share a little time to be absolutely certain they’ve found their happily-ever-after, and then the celebration will be made public.

Snorkeling 😉
They have the most amazing wing feathers. I have one who comes everyday to dine on the seed we leave in the birdfeeders. He’s gorgeous!
